  • Genetesis & CardioFlux Expansion – Cincinnati-based Genetesis, a medical imaging startup, has launched the CardioFlux Imaging Institute, a membership-based program in Mason, OH, offering noninvasive heart monitoring using FDA-approved magnetocardiography technology. With $40M in venture funding, including backing from Mark Cuban, the company aims to expand nationwide, providing an innovative tool for early detection of heart disease and preventative cardiac care.   • Xavier University Unveils Medical School Design – The university has unveiled official renderings of its new 130,000-square-foot College of Osteopathic Medicine, set to broke ground recently and will welcome its first class in 2027. As Ohio’s first new medical school in nearly 50 years and the world’s first Jesuit osteopathic medical school, it aims to address the physician shortage by educating 1,300 new doctors by 2038, with a focus on holistic, patient-centered care.   • FlexCare Infusion Acquired by Optum –Cincinnati-based RC Capital won an exit for one of its subsidiaries, FlexCare. Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, acquired FlexCare Infusion, an ambulatory infusion network with 30 locations across Alabama, Arizona, and Oklahoma, expanding its growing healthcare footprint. The deal follows Optum’s recent acquisitions in home health, orthopedics, and cardiovascular care, reinforcing its strategy of integrating specialty care services. Read more

  • Medicaid Work Requirements Coming to Ohio – Ohio lawmakers are pushing to reinstate Medicaid work requirements for low-income adults, potentially causing 61,000 people to lose coverage in 2026, while state and federal budget proposals threaten to cut Medicaid expansion altogether, putting 700,000 Ohioans at risk of losing their healthcare.   • Ohio Food Banks Face Funding Cuts – Ohio food banks face a $7.5 million funding cut in the governor’s proposed budget, despite record-high demand driven by inflation and food insecurity, while federal lawmakers consider additional $150 billion SNAP cuts, sparking debate over the role of government assistance in addressing hunger.   • Kentucky Lawmakers Pass Medicaid Changes – In a last-minute legislative move, Kentucky Republicans passed a bill making Medicaid work requirements mandatory for able-bodied adults without dependents. Read more

  • Medality (formerly MRI Online) acquired by TrueLearn – Cincinnati-based Medality, an edtech startup specializing in virtual radiology training, has been acquired by TrueLearn, marking Cincinnati’s first startup exit of 2025. Medality will continue operating independently and plans to expand its offerings, including launching a radiology question bank, while leveraging TrueLearn’s analytics technology to enhance education and performance tracking.   • Covington Life Sciences Partners rebrands as LifeSciKY – Covington Life Sciences Partners, a nonprofit life sciences incubator, has rebranded as LifeSciKY to better reflect its mission of positioning Northern Kentucky as a leader in biotech innovation. The organization, now accepting applications for lab residency, offers early-stage companies access to $1 million in shared equipment and lab facilities, with its 15,000-square-foot facility set to open in late summer 2025 at the OneNKY Center.   • Cincinnati Children's Hospital Announces $365M ExpansionCincinnati Children's Liberty Campus has received approval for a $365 million expansion, nearly tripling hospital beds from 42 to 114 by 2028 and adding a new 150,000-square-foot medical office building. The project, set to create 250 new jobs, includes four new operating rooms, an expanded emergency department, and enhanced imaging capabilities, improving access to pediatric care in Butler County and beyond.
