  • OneNKY Center Opens in Covington with Life Sciences Innovation Hub – Northern Kentucky celebrated the grand opening of the OneNKY Center, a $26 million, 47,000-square-foot facility in Covington that unites the region's leading growth organizations under one roof and establishes Kentucky's first dedicated life sciences laboratory. The four-story building at the foot of the Roebling Bridge houses ten tenants including the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, meetNKY, OneNKY Alliance, and the Northern Kentucky Bar Association, realizing a vision first proposed by Corporex founder Bill Butler in 1981. The second floor features LifeSciKY, a 15,000-square-foot incubator lab that is the only facility of its kind between Lexington and Columbus, currently partnering with three startup companies from Louisville, Knoxville, and Houston working on therapeutic cancer treatments and solutions to the IVF crisis. The project was funded through a combination of a $15 million state grant, $8.7 million in construction bonds backed by Kenton County, and nearly $1 million in philanthropic donations. Read more

  • Federal Budget Reconciliation Law Threatens Coverage for Hundreds of Thousands of Ohioans – The 2025 budget reconciliation law, signed into law in July as the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," is projected to increase Ohio's uninsured population by 340,000 to 460,000 people by 2034, according to Kaiser Family Foundation state-by-state estimates. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the law will reduce federal spending on health care by over $1 trillion and lead to a 10 million increase in the country's uninsured population, with Ohio projected to lose $5.62 billion in Medicaid funding over 10 years, the seventh highest loss nationwide. The law implements new Medicaid work requirements, more frequent eligibility checks, and immigration restrictions, with most coverage losses expected to roll out gradually over the next decade.
